Summerland is proud to present to you Mr Foster, our new Year 2 Teacher!

Mr Foster says, "I love teaching because no other job has an impact to change the world on such a wide scale. We are dealing with tomorrow's leaders. With tomorrow’s workforce. Potentially with tomorrow’s breakthrough scientists, astronauts, doctors and farmers. We have the ability to shape the world of the future through the students who walk through our classroom doors."

STAFF PROFILE

Name: Mr Camden Foster

Year group: Year 2 Teacher

Career background: After graduating from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Education : Primary HPE Major I worked for the Queensland Department of Education at Rasmussen State School. At this is school I was given the opportunity to establish a STEM specialist program. In this role I got to teach Prep to Year 6 Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

My teaching style: My teaching approach hinges upon the marrying together of evidence and practice. Together these two form great teaching. As teachers we draw from evidence and research to inform our teaching methods, our content we teach and the strategies we use to run an effective classroom. Practice is the everyday dealings for a teacher. In practice we love and care for our students, we teach to student’s needs, we stop to listen and become heroes for our kids.  When we draw the practical nature of teaching with the evidence base for teaching together we achieve great things!

I love (about Summerland): I love that Summerland has amazing leadership who are God-honouring and faithful in their leadership of staff. In all my dealings with the interview panel and administration of the college I met people who were striving to support staff to grow professionally and spiritually.

For fun...teacher inspiration: An inspiration video that was shown to me at university and then several time throughout my career is entitled Every Child needs a Champion by Rita Pearson. I have attached the link because explaining it really doesn’t do it justice. This is why I come to work everyday!
