Tim’s relational teaching approach with firm boundaries creates a great environment for Senior Students to succeed!

We’ve also included a profile on Mr Ravenscroft’s career and teaching approach.

"I love teaching HSC Music because at this level each student is truly building and developing as an individual artist. Helping students to discover their unique quality and taste in music, which then gets translated into their compositions and performances, is a wonderful process to watch and foster."

TEACHER PROFILE
Name: Tim Ravenscroft

Title/Subject: HSC Music and Drama Teacher

Career background: After studying Music Performance at Monash University in Melbourne, I completed my Diploma of Education at SCU. I enjoyed my studies, especially my time in Melbourne, taking in the cultural expanse of that wonderful city. I have always had a keen interest in teaching, starting my teaching career even before I finished my studies with small music classes in primary schools across Melbourne. When I finished studying, I moved to London where I got to experience the full extent of the teaching tradition. I call it my baptism of fire into the teaching world as my eyes were definitely opened. It wasn’t too long before I had the opportunity to come to Summerland and I have enjoyed this time immensely. What a great place to work! The students and staff have been wonderful and my teaching has grown and developed every year. At Summerland, I have gained further experience in Music, and developed in other areas such as Drama and Technology.

My teaching approach/style: I have always been relational in my personality so this comes across in my teaching also. I love seeing students succeed and feel like they are accomplishing. I balance this relational approach with a firm set of boundaries in order to foster the best possible learning environment for the students. I believe students should be able to enjoy their time at school while learning much in the process.

I love: The students, the staff and the environment we share and create together. It truly is a wonderful place to spend much of my day.

Favourite Quote: ‘Love God, Love people’ – I try to live my life by these words.
