We've had an overwhelmingly positive response from parents, staff, students and friends about the 'Sound of Music' musical produced in term 2.

We love celebrating success and hard work at our college so take a moment to read through these responses from Anita, who's daughter was in the musical and Kyah, one of our actresses who as a new student, settled into our school through the experience.

'I think that performing in the Sound of Music for Rebekah was a positive, rewarding and valuable experience, not to mention lots of fun! She loved getting into character and the whole experience of being part of a big production. Getting to know and spend time with other students that she otherwise wouldn't have, was also really encouraging to her. She commented to me that many of the older students were so kind and caring towards her and the other younger students.

The time commitment, long hours of practice and memorisation of lines and scenes were certainly a challenge at times, but a good lesson in discipline and team work. When I first heard that the musical would be completed from start to finish in one term and I saw the schedule, I was a bit worried. But it all came together very successfully and I loved watching Rebekah and all the students shine after all that hard work. It was also lovely to see the thought that went into caring for the students needs, with things like meals being organised. I think the professional and caring attitudes from all involved has been a great reflection of the Godly spirit of a Christian school.' - Anita, parent (re: her daughter Rebekah, Yr 7).

'I played Louisa in 'The Sound of Music' and I couldn’t have loved it more! Ever since Day One of rehearsals and all the rehearsals that followed I found such joy in everything to do with it. Being the new girl it can be hard to fit in but I found that the musical helped me settle in and become who I truly am in front of my new friends. It helped me create a deeper connection with the teachers involved and all the cast members developed such a beautiful friendship that has carried through after the musical. In the process of the musical we all became so close and it made me feel really welcome and a part of Summerland.

This musical has helped me to grow in my passion for acting and music also. When I was up on stage I felt completely myself and it reaffirmed how much I want to pursue this as a future career. I can’t describe how much I enjoyed every step of the process. I am so thankful for this amazing opportunity and am already pumped for the next one.' - Kyah (student, Year 9)
