Name: Michael Capilli
Title/Subject: Secondary Coordinator. I currently teach HSC English, PDHPE and Legal Studies.
Career Background: I've been at Summerland now for 18 years. This is my 14th year teaching HSC classes. In that time, I've marked HSC PDHPE (in 2005 and 2006) and this year marked HSC English for the 6th time. The value of marking at HSC level is incredible, as it allows us to specifically target the knowledge and skills students need to succeed at the highest levels.
Over the years, I've also helped facilitate the improvement of Christian School sport in the Zone, such as running North Coast Zone teams to Athletics, Cross Country and Touch Football carnivals. I've also been the NSW U15 Boys Touch Football Coach. I sat on the Committee of Management for NSW Christian School Sport for 6 years and helped establish a strong support for country schools representation at that level.
My Teaching Approach/Style: My aim in every class is to help students be the best they can be, and do the best they can do, each day. I structure my lessons to get the most value for our time, and to ensure my students 'get' what they need to succeed. I like to establish strong rapport with students, and then use that to help them achieve their best. We have such fantastic young men and women in our Senior classes and it's an honour and a blessing to be part of their lives.
I Love: I love that we are a strong Christian Community. I love that most of our kids have a desire to be who God wants them to be, and I'm privileged to be in the position to help them achieve those dreams.
For Fun: Anyone who knows me knows I need to be in or on the water surfing, swimming or fishing as much as possible. I've got a new boat, so if you see a flash of silver go past you on the river at 50km/h that's probably me! I have been bodyboarding for over 35 years, been sponsored for over 20 of those years and once placed 4th at the Australian Titles.
